You've beaten the vanilla island, or you've burned through a few seasons on a skyblock server, and now you want the version with machines in it. That's what the best skyblock modpacks are for: the same tree in the void, except this time it ends in tech trees, quest books and a base that runs itself. Search for Minecraft skyblock modpacks, though, and you'll get Reddit arguments, Hypixel mod lists and a hosting blog that never tells you which Minecraft version anything runs on. So here are four packs, each read off its own CurseForge page as of October 2026, with the version, the last update and whether there's a quest book.
What a skyblock modpack actually is
A skyblock map is the original challenge: a tiny island, a chest, a tree and nothing underneath you. If that's what you're after, my roundup of the best skyblock maps has the classic download and its remakes, and how to play skyblock walks you through the first hour. A skyblock modpack keeps that void-and-tree start and bolts a whole modded progression on top: machines, magic and automation. The genre's come a long way from one forum map, and the history of skyblock covers how it got here.
Hypixel SkyBlock is something else again: an RPG-style game mode on a server, not a modpack built around your own void world, and the mods people run for it are client-side extras. The mix-up is half the reason search results are such a mess. The "SkyBlock Enhanced" pack on Modrinth, for example, is a bundle of quality-of-life mods for Hypixel SkyBlock, not a skyblock modpack at all. If that's your game, you want my list of Hypixel SkyBlock mods instead.
Is there a skyblock modpack for Bedrock? No. Bedrock has add-ons, not Forge or NeoForge modpacks, so everything below is Java Edition only. On Bedrock, the skyblock maps page has the official map and a free server.
Best skyblock modpacks at a glance
| Pack | Minecraft | Loader | Last update | Quests | Downloads |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SkyFactory 4 | 1.12.2 | Not listed on its page | Dec 13, 2021 (4.2.4) | Optional advancement goals, no quest book | About 14.1 million |
| All the Mods 10: To the Sky | 1.21.1 | NeoForge | Oct 15, 2026 (2.1.0) | Yes, optional | About 3.6 million |
| FTB Skies 2 | 1.21.1 | NeoForge | Oct 12, 2026 (1.24.0) | Yes, 1,000+ | About 580,000 |
| Project Ozone 3 | 1.12.2 | Forge | Jan 16, 2023 (3.4.11F) | Yes, about 1,200 | About 3.2 million |
All figures as of October 2026. ATM10 Sky and FTB Skies 2 are still updating, so check their files lists against the table.
1. SkyFactory 4: the classic
If you ask anyone for the best skyblock modpack, SkyFactory 4 is the obvious place to start the conversation, and with about 14.1 million downloads as of October 2026 it's easily the most downloaded pack here. It's darkosto's pack on Minecraft 1.12.2, with over 30 world types, some of them the classic tree on dirt.
The progression is where it breaks from tradition. SkyFactory 4 dropped sieving entirely and replaced it with Sky Orchards, trees that grow resource drops, and Resource Trees, which let you choose which resources you want to produce. Full automation, tech and magic take you all the way to the late game, and an optional Prestige system unlocks extra mods, items and mechanics with points that carry over between worlds.
Quests: not really. It swaps the old achievement book for vanilla advancements and calls them an optional set of goals, not a required questing system. If you want a quest book holding your hand, look further down.
The catch: the last update was 4.2.4 on December 13, 2021. It's frozen on 1.12.2, so nothing modern will run alongside it. I'd still play it, because nothing else here handles resources the way it does. Just know it's a classic, not a living project.
Get it: curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/skyfactory-4. The install button there sends it to the CurseForge app, and there are server files for 4.2.4 if you're hosting.
2. All the Mods 10: To the Sky: the big modern one
ATM10 Sky is the current All the Mods sky pack: Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, about 3.6 million downloads, and updated to 2.1.0 on October 15, 2026.
Its own pitch is ATM10 crossed with the classic challenge: you take on the void with nothing but a tree and a single block. From there you build an empire in the sky out of modern automation, magic, tech and exploration, and you'll need some creative automation to reach the endgame content.
Quests: yes, and optional. Follow them for guidance or ignore them and do your own thing.
The catch: it's a big pack, built on what its page calls a "massive collection" of mods, and it wants at least 6 to 8 GB of RAM. An older laptop is going to feel that.
Get it: curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/all-the-mods-10-sky, installed through the CurseForge app. There's a server pack too, and the page says it's fully compatible with servers and LAN play.
3. FTB Skies 2: the skyblock modpack with quests
FTB Skies 2 is the current FTB sky pack, and the one I'd hand to most people. It's on Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge, it was updated to 1.24.0 on October 12, 2026, and it has about 580,000 downloads. Smallest number here, but it's also only about a year old.
The clever part is that you pick how you make resources. There are three paths: Crystalmancy (budding geodes and crystal transformation), Cultivation (Mystical Agriculture, Productive Bees and fishing) and Prospecting (Create and Create: Sifting). Stick to one or master all three, starting on one of over half a dozen islands, from a minimalist dirt block with a tree up to Amethyst Isles and Steamworks, with a reworked FTB Pyramid waiting at the end.
Quests: this is the quest pack. Over 1,000 of them, from item turn-ins to exploration, observations, challenges and boss kills, plus a reward shop where you choose what you get.
The catch: if you came for punishment, this isn't it. The page says outright that FTB Skies 2 is not an expert pack. It also promises hundreds of hours of content, so it's not short either.
Get it: curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/ftb-skies-2, through the CurseForge app. Playing with friends? Check the pack's files list for a server pack that matches your version.
4. Project Ozone 3: older, still loved
Project Ozone 3: A New Way Forward runs on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge, has about 3.2 million downloads, and hasn't been updated since 3.4.11F on January 16, 2023. It's old, and you should go in knowing that.
It's a sky pack by recommendation rather than by force: the recommended world type is Garden of Glass, though you can pick others. The quest book is Better Questing, with 1,197 quests, and rewards come through a currency system called RAK instead of loot chests.
Quests: yes, and they're the spine of the pack.
The catch: besides the age, it's heavy. The page asks for at least 6 GB of RAM and no more than 8, and says any less might crash it. It has four pack modes (Normal, Titan, Kappa and Mythic), which you switch in config/packmode.cfg or with /packmode, restarting both client and server. The page says Normal mode is slightly harder than Project Ozone 2's.
Get it: curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/project-ozone-3-a-new-way-forward (the shorter address won't find it), through the CurseForge app. There's a server pack as well.
Looking for StoneBlock 3?
StoneBlock runs the same start-with-nothing, automate-everything loop as these packs, just underground: you start walled in by solid stone and carve your space out of it. The current one is StoneBlock 4 (1.21.1, NeoForge, updated October 12, 2026), where you sift raw ore out of gravel, sand and dust and later hand the job to a villager. StoneBlock 3 is the older version, on 1.18.2 with Forge and last updated in May 2025. If you're starting fresh, start with 4.
Which skyblock modpack should you play?
- It's your first modpack ever: FTB Skies 2. The quests tell you what to do next, it's on a current version, and its own page says it isn't an expert pack. That's the best skyblock modpack for beginners on this list.
- You want quests, but on your terms: ATM10 Sky. The quests are there when you're lost and easy to ignore when you're not, and you get a huge modern mod list.
- You want a mountain of quests and modes to switch between: Project Ozone 3, with its 1,197 quests and four pack modes, if you're fine on 1.12.2. FTB Skies 2's 1,000+ quests are the modern alternative.
- You want the one everybody talks about: SkyFactory 4. It's the most downloaded pack here by a mile, and if you've been hunting for modpacks like SkyFactory, its Sky Orchards loop still plays differently from everything else on this list.
- You're playing with friends: ATM10 Sky, SkyFactory 4 and Project Ozone 3 all have server files on their pages, and ATM10 Sky says it works on LAN too. Setting one up is in my guide to making a modded Minecraft server. Or skip the hosting and join a public one from my list of modded Minecraft servers.
Installing a skyblock modpack
Every pack here installs from its CurseForge page straight into the CurseForge app. Give the pack the RAM it asks for (6 to 8 GB for ATM10 Sky and Project Ozone 3) before you blame it for crashing. If you'd rather not use the CurseForge app, my rundown of the best Minecraft launchers compares the other options.
Not ready for modded?
If a giant modpack sounds like homework, the best skyblock servers give you islands, an economy and other people with nothing to install. And if you're curious what the island loop looks like outside Minecraft entirely, I've written about that too. My pick stands, though: FTB Skies 2 if you're new to modded, ATM10 Sky if you want a huge modern mod list, and SkyFactory 4 once, for the history.
