Ask the forums which Hypixel SkyBlock mods to run and you'll get a mod list as long as your arm, followed by somebody in the replies worrying that a lot of them are bannable. "I literally can't play this game without QoL mods" is a real sentiment over there, and so is the fear of a Watchdog ban. So this list starts with Hypixel's own rules, then gets to five mods, three texture packs and the stuff that actually gets accounts in trouble.
Hypixel's mod rules come first
Hypixel's Allowed Modifications page on support.hypixel.net sorts permitted mods into four categories. If a mod doesn't fit one, Hypixel says to assume it's disallowed by default.
- Client performance. Mods that just make your client run better, like FPS boosters, without changing the game.
- Aesthetic. Look-and-feel changes that don't touch gameplay, "such as standard shader modifications or even resource packs". They can't make solid blocks see-through or change your perspective.
- Cosmetic HUD. Restyling your HUD without adding information you wouldn't normally have. Armor and status-effect HUDs are fine. Minimaps, other players' health or armor, and player distance or range aren't.
- Brightness and gamma. Turning the lights up.
Anything that automates gameplay is strictly out: macros, auto or burst clicking, auto-sprint, aim assist. So is anything that changes how your client talks to Hypixel's servers.
Then there's the line most mod lists skip. Hypixel says all mod use is at your own risk, "including the ones we list as examples", because it can't review every version of every mod. It doesn't endorse or name any SkyBlock mod, and if you run a client or modpack, you're responsible for every mod inside it. There's no official whitelist to hide behind. Read what each mod below does, switch off any feature you're not comfortable with, and make the call yourself.
Which version? 1.21.9 or newer, on Fabric
On January 29, 2026, Hypixel staff announced that from February 24, SkyBlock would only let in the two most recent major content updates of Minecraft, which at the time meant 1.21.9 and up. The February 24 patch notes made it official, with support planned for the two latest game drops going forward. That floor moves every time Minecraft ships a drop, and Hypixel warned that some mods would need updating to keep working. When a new drop lands, expect your favourite mod to lag behind for a bit.
Mod pages now list versions like 26.1 and 26.2 next to 1.21.x. That's Minecraft's newer year-based numbering, not a typo. Match every file to your exact game version.
The loader is Fabric. On modern versions the large majority of SkyBlock mod developers build for it, and Forge or NeoForge mods won't load in a Fabric install.
What happened to the 1.8.9 setup (SkyblockAddons and NEU)?
For years, modded SkyBlock meant 1.8.9 on Forge, with SkyblockAddons and NotEnoughUpdates (NEU) doing the heavy lifting, and the old 1.8.9 guides built around it still rank in search. It won't get you in any more: since February 24, 2026, a 1.8.9 client can't join SkyBlock. RIP 1.8.9, as the forums put it. Some mods, SkyHanni for one, still list a 1.8.9 Forge build, but for SkyBlock you want the Fabric build for a current version. If you miss NEU's item list, look at Firmament below, which calls itself "inspired by NEU".
The best Hypixel SkyBlock mods
Start with Skyblocker or SkyHanni. A community modding guide on the Hypixel forums calls them "the two core mods most players use", and they have the biggest Modrinth download counts on this list. They overlap a lot, so I'd install one, play a week, and only add what you find yourself missing.
Get every mod from its own Modrinth page, or the GitHub repo that page links to. Hypixel itself tells you to stick to the official source, because re-uploads can carry unadvertised features that get you punished, or flat-out malicious code. The forums call those "rats".
1. Skyblocker
The big all-rounder: dungeon puzzle solvers and secret waypoints, a Croesus profit helper, Kuudra waypoints, health, mana and defense bars, a profile viewer, item tooltips with Bazaar and Auction House prices, quicknav buttons, a recipe book, and Garden, Slayer and mining helpers. Roughly 5 million Modrinth downloads as of October 2026, open source (LGPL-3.0), code on GitHub under SkyblockerMod. If you mostly run dungeons, start here.
2. SkyHanni
The other heavyweight. Its page leads with the Garden (crop milestones, a visitor helper), then Diana waypoints, a damage indicator, Bingo, Slayer, Fishing, Mining and Rift helpers, and a long list of HUD elements. It's upfront that it sends requests to api.eliteskyblock.com for Elite leaderboards and Jacob's contest sharing, and says no sensitive data goes with them. About 4.8 million downloads as of October 2026; source on GitHub at hannibal002/SkyHanni. If you live in the Garden, start here instead.
3. Firmament
The NEU-shaped one: a list of every SkyBlock item, recipe viewers for crafting and the Forge, a storage overview, a cursor-position saver, slot locking, a fairy-soul highlighter, a HUD editor, and custom texture pack support. Around 2 million downloads as of October 2026, code on GitHub under nea89o. The newest version its page lists is 26.1.2, so check it against your game version before building around it.
4. Aaron's Mod
A grab bag: an FPS display, a hide-fire-overlay toggle, chat copy, a particle manager and a text replacer, plus SkyBlock extras like Bazaar and Auction House price commands, player stat lookups, dungeon score messages and M7 dragon helpers. Roughly 1.7 million downloads as of October 2026, All Rights Reserved. Its page says it's only maintained for the latest Minecraft version, so don't expect fixes for older ones. Skyblocker's own page points to it, alongside Firmament, as another SkyBlock mod.
5. SkyOcean
The lightweight pick: an item value screen, item search across your storage, a Craft Helper, slayer and fishing highlights, trophy-fish counts, and mining and HOTM displays. Read its Modrinth page before installing: it carries a photosensitivity warning (marked off by default) and always-active telemetry, listed as an anonymous Hypixel Pack UUID. About 2.1 million downloads as of October 2026.

These shift with every update and every Minecraft drop, so check the mod's page against your game version before you download.
Hypixel SkyBlock texture packs
A SkyBlock texture pack isn't a normal drop-in pack. Hypixel sends SkyBlock items as vanilla items carrying custom data, so a plain pack can't tell one SkyBlock item from any other item of the same vanilla type. That's the bit newcomers trip on, and it's what Catharsis is for.
Catharsis is a mod, not a pack: "A Resourcepack mod for Hypixel SkyBlock" that lets packs retexture any item or Ore Vein, with armor model support and replacements for specific blocks. As of October 2026 it's Fabric and client-side, with builds for 26.3, 26.2, 26.1.x and 1.21.6–1.21.11, updated about a month earlier, MIT licensed, from the Meowdding team. It needs Fabric Language Kotlin. Firmament can load custom pack models too, but all three packs below name Catharsis on their own pages.
Rules-wise, resource packs sit in Hypixel's Aesthetic category, so two hard limits apply: no see-through blocks and no perspective changes. An X-ray pack is exactly what that rule is about.
FurfSky Reborn
By Tylerrrr. It bills itself as "Hypixel Skyblock's most popular resource pack", textures almost every item at 16x, and its page shouts the important part: "REQUIRES CATHARSIS to work at all! Do not use Optifine." As of October 2026 it lists 26.2, 26.1.x and 1.21.x, was updated about three months earlier, and has around 4 million Modrinth downloads. If you want the whole game to look different, this is my pick.
Hypixel Plus
By ic22487. A vanilla-style pack that textures all of SkyBlock, Bedwars "and so much more". It needs Catharsis and should sit above the server resource pack in your pack list. As of October 2026 it lists 26.1.x and 1.21.x (back to 1.8.9), was updated about five months earlier, and has about 2.1 million Modrinth downloads. Go here if you want SkyBlock to still look like Minecraft, just tidier.
PacksHQ
By Zimri, who calls it "Hypixel Skyblock's oldest texture pack", now ported to 1.21 with Catharsis. It's 16x. As of October 2026 its Modrinth page only lists 1.21.9–1.21.11, the last update was about seven months earlier, and the page itself says features like pets are a work in progress and "likely full of bugs". It's the nostalgia pick. On a 26.x version, check for a matching build first.
How to install SkyBlock mods (the short version)
- Install the Modrinth App or Prism Launcher.
- Create a Fabric instance on a Minecraft version that SkyBlock accepts and your mods support.
- Add your mods from Modrinth inside the launcher. It usually pulls in dependencies for you, but make sure Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin end up in the instance. Missing dependencies and mismatched versions are the usual reasons a modded instance crashes.
- For a texture pack, add Catharsis as a mod, then add the pack and switch it on in Resource Packs.
What will get you banned
Straight from Hypixel's policy, these are off the table:
- Anything that automates play. Macros, auto-clickers, burst clicking, auto-sprint, aim assist.
- Information you shouldn't have. Minimaps, other players' health or armor, player distance or range.
- Packs that bend the world. See-through blocks, or anything that lets you see around or over objects.
- Mods that mess with the connection. Anything that changes how your client communicates with Hypixel's servers.
- Re-uploaded jars. Unofficial downloads can hide features you never asked for, and you're still the one responsible.
- Whatever's bundled in your client. Clients and modpacks are fine only if every mod inside would be allowed on its own, and checking that is on you.
More skyblock, with or without Hypixel
If Hypixel's version is the only skyblock you've played, my guide to how to play classic skyblock explains how the two differ, and the best skyblock maps get you an island of your own with no server rules at all. Want the genre with a different crowd? Try the best skyblock servers. And if it's Hypixel itself you're tired of, here are the Minecraft servers like Hypixel worth a look.
