Decide you want to play skyblock on your own world, search for a skyblock map, and you'll get a dozen downloads that all claim to be the one. Some are the original. Some are remakes. Some are re-uploads of somebody else's work, and a few are phone apps that have nothing to do with the people who made skyblock. My bar for this list is simple: every pick comes from the person who made it, on their own page, and I'll tell you exactly which edition and versions that page says it supports. Five made the cut.
Quick clarification first: none of these are Hypixel SkyBlock. That's a separate RPG-style game on a server, and I've covered the difference between skyblock and Hypixel SkyBlock elsewhere. Here, skyblock means the floating-island survival map.
Which kind of skyblock map do you want?
Pick your lane:
- The classic map. The original island, the chest, the tree, straight from skyblock.net. Java Edition. Go to pick 1.
- Bedrock (Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, phone). There's one official route and one free no-download option. Go to pick 2.
- A data pack that builds the world for you. The most version-proof way to get skyblock on Java, because it generates a fresh skyblock world instead of handing you an old save. Go to pick 3.
- A modern remake. Skyblock rebuilt with new island sizes and recipes, or turned into a stranger challenge. Picks 4 and 5.
And if what you actually want is a single regenerating block, not an island, that's a different challenge. My explainer on One Block Minecraft covers where to get it.
1. The classic skyblock map: skyblock.net (Java)
This is the real one. Skyblock.net describes itself as the official home of the original skyblock, created on September 4, 2011 by Noobcrew, and its downloads page at skyblock.net/downloads hands you the map for free. If you want the full story of how one forum map turned into a genre, that's in my history of skyblock.
As of October 2026 the page lists four singleplayer versions, each with a normal and a Hardcore download:
- V2.1: the most played one, with a sand island and a Nether realm.
- V2.0: a smaller island with three times fewer blocks than V2.1.
- V1.1: the original version of skyblock.
- V1.0: a smaller island with three times fewer blocks than V1.1.
The download counter on that page read just under 13 million in October 2026. The page doesn't list a version ceiling, and the map is still being served there as of October 2026. Noobcrew also has the same map up on minecraftmaps.com, where the page spells out the original 50-item challenge list and the three rules. That's a handy checklist to keep open while you play, but grab the world itself from skyblock.net.
Who it suits: anyone on Java who wants the skyblock everyone else played. Start with V2.1. Save V2.0, V1.0 and Hardcore for your second run.
2. The official skyblock map on Bedrock
Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and phone players are all on Bedrock, so the Java download above won't help you. Skyblock.net's Bedrock page points to its official map on the Minecraft Marketplace, published with Piki Studios, for $0.99 as of October 2026. Prices can move, so check the listing.
The catch is that searching "skyblock" in the Marketplace turns up a pile of lookalikes. Skyblock.net says plainly that it hasn't approved any other Marketplace products, so if you want the original, make sure you're buying the Piki Studios listing that skyblock.net links to.
Don't want to pay anything? The same page points you to a free official Bedrock server at bedrock.skyblock.net. That's multiplayer skyblock with no download at all.
Who it suits: console and mobile players who want the real thing for under a dollar, or for free if a server's fine.
3. SkyBlock - Standard (Java data pack, Modrinth)
My pick for most Java players who are on a recent version. SkyBlock - Standard, by BPR02 on Modrinth, isn't a saved world. It's a data pack that generates a skyblock world for you: an infinite void with the classic starter island at spawn (dirt, grass, an oak tree, and a chest with ice and a lava bucket), a floating sand island with a cactus and a loot chest, and a Nether island with nylium, soul sand, nether wart and 14 obsidian for a portal.
The clever bit: it keeps the invisible structure zones of a normal world at the same seed coordinates, from strongholds and ocean monuments to trial chambers, without building the structures themselves.
As of October 2026 its page lists Java Edition 1.19.x, 1.20.x, 1.21.x, 26.1.x and 26.2, and it runs as a plain data pack or as a mod on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt, in singleplayer or on a server. It's MIT licensed, past 1.2 million downloads, and was updated in September 2026. The page also recommends a companion pack, SkyBlock Advancements, plus Sky Void Additions for items you otherwise can't get. There are compatibility patches for Terralith, Nullscape and Amplified Nether too.
Who it suits: Java players who want classic skyblock on a current version, or want to add it to a modded setup.
4. Voidblock - Skyblock (Java, CurseForge)
The best modern remake I'd point you to. Voidblock - Skyblock, by LoweredgamesMC on CurseForge (curseforge.com/minecraft/worlds/voidblock-skyblock-reinterpretation), bills itself as the original skyblock modernized for the latest versions. You get the classic islands reworked, a choice of island sizes (Large, Normal, Small and Very Small), craftable recipes for renewable resources, an endless Overworld and Nether, a hardcore mode, and multiplayer support. There's also a portable version, as a data pack or a mod, if you'd rather add its mechanics to a world you already have.
One thing to know before you start: the End is crossed off its feature list, so don't plan your run around beating the dragon. As of October 2026 it's past 2.2 million downloads, its last file landed on October 10, 2026, and the listed game versions run 26.1 through 26.3, with 54 older versions on the files page.
Who it suits: people who've done the classic map and want it tuned up, not replaced.
5. VoidBlock (Java, CurseForge): the Nether-only twist
Different project, confusingly similar name. VoidBlock by Nordic_Studios (curseforge.com/minecraft/worlds/voidblock) isn't classic skyblock at all. The premise is that the Overworld is gone, leaving the void and a Nether portal, and you have to survive on Nether resources alone. That's a genuinely different puzzle if regular skyblock feels solved.
Be realistic about it, though. Its last file dates to September 6, 2024, its listed versions run from 1.19 to a 1.21.2 snapshot, and it's a small project, with under a thousand downloads as of October 2026.
Who it suits: skyblock veterans after a weird challenge, who don't mind running an older Minecraft version for it.

Skyblock map on Bedrock and MCPE: what about data packs and apps?
Two things Bedrock players run into. First, you can't use the data pack route. Data packs are a Java-only feature, and Bedrock's nearest equivalent is the behavior pack, so a Java data pack like SkyBlock - Standard won't load. On Bedrock, skyblock comes as a world download (an .mcworld file) or, officially, through the Marketplace.
Second, the "skyblock map" apps on phone app stores. They're third-party apps, not releases from Mojang or skyblock.net. If you're on a phone, the Marketplace listing or the free bedrock.skyblock.net server is the cleaner route.
What about all the other skyblock maps?
Planet Minecraft has thousands of fan-made skyblock maps under its skyblock tag, and the quality is all over the place. Some are maintained, plenty aren't, and it isn't always obvious who made the original. Browse it if you like hunting, but check the author, the comments and the last update before trusting anything there.
How to install a skyblock map
Java: put the world folder into your Minecraft saves folder, then load it from Singleplayer. For the data pack, grab the build that matches your game version from Modrinth, as a data pack or as a mod for your loader.
Bedrock: buy the official map on the Marketplace, because Java world folders and data packs won't load and Bedrock worlds come as .mcworld files instead. Or skip the download and join bedrock.skyblock.net.
The full walkthrough, plus what to do once you're standing on that tiny island, is in how to play skyblock.
Or skip the download
A map gets you skyblock on your own world. If you want other people, an economy and somebody else keeping the world running, a server is the better fit. I've rounded up the best skyblock servers with a quick checklist for vetting any server before you sink a hundred hours into an island. Otherwise, my pick stands: classic V2.1 if you're on Java and want the original, SkyBlock - Standard if you want it on a current version, and the $0.99 official map if you're on Bedrock.
