If your friends are split across devices, you've probably already hit the wall: one of you is on a PC with Java, another is on an Xbox, Switch or phone, and the crossplay Minecraft servers you find all want a different address. So, the quick answer to "are Minecraft servers crossplay?": not by default. Java and Bedrock don't connect to each other natively. A crossplay server is a Java server running Geyser, a translator that lets Bedrock players in. Bedrock players use the same address plus a port, usually 19132. Everything below was checked on each server's own site on October 19, 2026.
Bedrock devices already play with each other. Xbox, Switch, phone and Windows 10/11 Bedrock all mix fine. It's Java that sits apart, and that's the gap Geyser fills.
How Java and Bedrock crossplay servers work
Geyser pretends to be a Java client, so the server thinks a Java player joined. Redstone, commands and farms behave like Java because the server itself doesn't change. It only goes one way, though: Geyser lets Bedrock players onto Java servers, not Java players onto Bedrock servers. It's free and open source.
You'll often see Floodgate next to it. That's a separate plugin that lets Bedrock players join an online-mode Java server without owning a Java account. It's why Bedrock players on these servers have a prefix on their names, often a leading dot (each server sets its own), and spaces turned into underscores. Don't panic if your friend shows up as .Steve_Builds.
Geyser tracks recent versions. As of October 2026 it supports Bedrock 26.30 to 26.52 and a Java 26.3 client, and servers on older Java need an extra layer called ViaVersion. So if your Bedrock game is far behind, update it before blaming the server.
Minecraft crossplay servers: Java address, Bedrock address and port
| Server | Best for | Java address | Bedrock |
|---|---|---|---|
| CubeCraft | Minigames | play.cubecraft.net (1.21.8+) | Servers tab, no IP (1.21.120+) |
| Vanilla Europa | Semi-vanilla survival | play.vanillaeuropa.com | same address, port 19132 |
| JustVanilla | Vanilla survival, griefing allowed | mc.justvanilla.net | same address, port 19132 |
| LumaMC | Towny | play.lumamc.net | same address, port 19132 |
| Minehut SMP | RPG-style SMP | smp.minehut.gg | smp.bedrock.minehut.gg (default port 19132) |
| EcoCityCraft | Long-running, never-reset world | web.ecc.eco | same address; check the server's page for the Bedrock port |
Servers change addresses and ports, so if one doesn't connect, the server's own site wins over this table.
Crossplay survival servers
Vanilla Europa is the one I'd send a mixed group to first for survival. Its FAQ says it uses Geyser and Floodgate, runs the latest version of Minecraft, and has never reset since 2018. It's semi-vanilla: server-side plugins handle land protection, moderation, crossplay and travel, and the game itself stays the game.
JustVanilla says you can join on any version up to 26.1.2 from Java or Bedrock and share the same world. That range is a little behind the latest Java (26.3), so check it works for your version. Griefing and PvP are part of the world there, which suits some groups and wrecks others. I'd skip it if anyone in your group wants to build in peace. For more survival picks, see my vanilla Minecraft servers list.
EcoCityCraft says it's been running since 2011 on a world that never resets, and you can connect on Java or Bedrock at web.ecc.eco. It doesn't print a Bedrock port on its home page, so check its site before you type one in.
Crossplay Towny and SMP servers
LumaMC is a Towny server. Java and Bedrock both use play.lumamc.net, with port 19132 on Bedrock. Towny means claiming land and running a town, so it works well with a group, and my Minecraft Towny servers page covers the genre.
Minehut's official SMP is at smp.minehut.gg on Java and smp.bedrock.minehut.gg on Bedrock. Its page says Season 1 is live, rebuilt as an RPG with dungeons, land claims and skills. You'll still see .com versions of these addresses floating around; go with the .gg ones. Minehut's wider network also does crossplay through Geyser: a community server at example.minehut.gg becomes example.bedrock.minehut.gg on Bedrock. Its Bedrock support is phones and Windows only, with no consoles. For more of the genre, there's best Minecraft SMP servers.
Crossplay minigame servers
CubeCraft is the odd one out. It isn't a Geyser server. It runs its own native Bedrock tech alongside Java, which is why there's no Bedrock IP to type: on Bedrock you open Play, go to the Servers tab and tap it. You need an Xbox Live account, and its help page is blunt that cracked accounts and launchers like TLauncher aren't supported. SkyWars got an update on both editions on September 10, 2026, and the Mob Hunt beta runs on both too. One catch: the SkyWars Advanced vote needs the Bedrock SkyWars Pass or the Java Diamond Rank. My Minecraft minigame servers page has the mode-by-mode picks.
What Bedrock players lose on a Geyser server
Geyser's own docs list what can't be fixed. The ones you'll notice:
- Clickable links in chat, and anything that relies on tab-complete or typing in the chat UI.
- Custom enchantments, non-vanilla enchantment levels (like Silk Touch 2), custom anvil and smithing recipes and custom furnace cook times.
- The glowing effect, banner layers past 6, and gliding without elytra.
- Left versus right click in inventories.
- World height beyond -512 to 512 in the overworld.
- Mods that need client-side installs. Cobblemon and Pixelmon content, for example, doesn't render on Bedrock clients.
Some of it has a patch. A bundled Bedrock resource pack restores things like custom armor-stand poses and Java-style inventory tweaks, and the offhand swap works through /geyser offhand. Combat feels different between editions too; my Java vs Bedrock page covers that.
Crossplay on Xbox, Switch and PlayStation
Here's the catch for console players. On consoles, the Featured Servers are the only servers in the Play menu, and you can't add your own. So CubeCraft, with its Servers tab, is the easy one. The Geyser servers above need a workaround, and consoles also need an online subscription to play multiplayer.
The usual workaround is BedrockConnect, a DNS method for Xbox One, Switch and PS4. It's third-party and not affiliated with GeyserMC, and Geyser's own page says the main BedrockConnect IP is often blocked, so you may need another instance or the public GeyserConnect at geyserconnect.net. My guide to adding servers on Minecraft Xbox walks through it. Minehut Bedrock doesn't support consoles at all.
Is GeyserMC bannable?
Two different questions hide in there.
Joining a server that runs Geyser is the intended use. The server owner installed it on purpose and hands Bedrock players an address and port for exactly this. You're not sneaking anything past anyone.
Running your own Geyser proxy to get onto a Java-only network is different. Hypixel is the usual example. A 2021 Hypixel forum thread has regular members (not staff) answering that it isn't allowed and can set off the anticheat. That's player opinion from years ago, not a ruling from staff. If you want to play a network that doesn't run Geyser itself, read that server's rules first. And if the point is just playing with your friends, a server from the table above skips the whole question.
It also explains why competitive Java servers often skip Bedrock. Geyser's community-run anticheat list shows only Boar and Themis fully accurate for Bedrock players; GrimAC, Matrix, Vulcan and others ignore Bedrock players or skip checks on them, and some produce false positives.
Want to run your own crossplay server?
Short version: run a Java server, add Geyser (and Floodgate if you want Bedrock players without Java accounts), and give Bedrock friends your address and port. Two things trip people up. Geyser needs its own port, which can't be shared with the Java server, and for friends outside your network you now forward it for both TCP and UDP, because newer Bedrock versions use the NetherNet transport. Ngrok won't work since it's TCP-only. Start with how to make a Minecraft server, and Minecraft server software compared helps you pick Paper, Fabric or something else, since Geyser-Spigot needs a Spigot or Paper server on 1.20.5+.
How to join a crossplay server
- Java: Multiplayer, Add Server, paste the address, join.
- Bedrock (phone, Windows): Play, Servers, Add Server. Enter the address and set the port, usually
19132. - Bedrock (console): Servers tab for CubeCraft, or a workaround for the rest, as above.
The step-by-step version is in how to join a Minecraft server, and how to play Minecraft with friends covers the other ways to link up, Realms included.
Crossplay server FAQ
Are there any crossplay Minecraft servers?
Yes. The six above, and any Java server that runs Geyser.
Can Java and Bedrock players play together?
Only on a server set up for it. Geyser lets Bedrock players onto Java servers, and it doesn't go the other way.
Which servers aren't crossplay?
Hypixel is Java only, and The Hive is Bedrock only.
Are crossplay servers free?
The crossplay part is. Geyser is free and open source, and with Floodgate a Bedrock player doesn't need a Java account. Servers set their own prices, though, and some sell ranks or passes (CubeCraft does), so look at a server's store before you spend. Console players pay for an online subscription regardless. For more servers to try, see Minecraft servers to join.
