The Best Minecraft Towny Servers in 2026: Towns, Nations and Where to Start (Java and Bedrock)

Four Towny servers, what a town actually costs to keep alive, who can join from Bedrock, and what each store really sells.

Search for Minecraft Towny servers and you get directories with thousands of entries, and a lot of them are tagged "Towny" without running it. The usual Reddit complaint is that it's all "commercial and generic cashgrab" servers. So this list is short. All four servers below say on their own site or wiki that they run Towny, and I checked them on October 18, 2026. Where a store shows what it sells, I've put it here so you can judge for yourself.

Not sure what Towny is? Read the next section first, because the rules explain why some servers feel so different from each other.

What Towny servers are: towns, nations, claims and upkeep

Towny is a server plugin, and it's been around for over 15 years. You start as a nomad, a player with no town. Join an open town with /town join or get invited by a mayor, and you're a resident. A mayor starts a town with /town new, which often costs money depending on the server's settings. Towns can then join together into a nation, which has a capital town and its own bank and can ally with other nations.

Land is claimed in townblocks, 16x16 blocks by default and the full height of the world. The mayor claims them with /town claim, and they have to touch your existing land unless you claim a separate outpost out in the wilderness. Inside a town, plots can be sold or given to residents, and each plot has its own permissions for building, breaking, using doors and chests, and using items. Towns can toggle explosions, fire, PvP and mobs.

Then there's upkeep, the bit that surprises newcomers. Taxes and upkeep are charged once per "Towny Day", which is 24 real hours by default. Upkeep goes to the server and disappears from the game, which admins use to clear out dead towns and fight inflation. If a town can't pay, its residents are kicked and the town is removed. If a nation can't pay, its towns are kicked out and the nation is gone. Every server sets its own numbers, so check before you claim half a map.

Some servers also have a wartime mode that suspends normal protection so towns and nations can fight. The rules vary a lot from server to server.

LumaMC: Towny with seasons, jobs and a Bedrock door

LumaMC's homepage says "We're a Towny server", and its wiki calls Towny the core of the gameplay. Towny is also how you claim land there. Around it sits a player economy, jobs, mcMMO, custom fishing with competitions, Brewery, ArtMap, custom items and crates. There's a Seasons world too, where weather and time follow real life in the Northern Hemisphere. Its homepage was posting news dated October 15, 2026.

Join at play.lumamc.net on Java. Bedrock players use the same address with port 19132, and I cover what Bedrock gives up in the Bedrock section below. Town upkeep is real: if you don't pay, your town falls into ruin, and the exact prices are in /towny prices in-game.

Good: a lot to do besides claim land, and Bedrock support that's actually written up.

The store: Luma's wiki says everything on its store is either cosmetic or obtainable in-game through regular play. That's the server's own claim. Store ranks are Arcane, Divine, Luminal, Seraphic and Ethereal, next to twelve in-game ranks, and the homes, auction-house slots and player vaults from store ranks don't stack with the in-game ones. I'd read the wiki's ranks page before buying anything. Parts of the wiki date from 2025.

CraftYourTown: lots of Towny, a lot of store

CraftYourTown (CYT) has been running since 2017 and lists Towny as one of its game modes next to Skyblock. Its Towny Version 12 patch, on October 3, 2026, moved the server to Minecraft 26.2 and strongly recommends only that version. It also moved the server software to Folia. Get the join address from craftyourtown.com, then pick Towny from the menu once you're in. Keep inventory is on.

The patch notes are also the clearest set of Towny prices I found. Upkeep dropped to $12.50 per townblock per day (it was $15). Claiming a townblock now costs $350 (it was $250), and claiming an outpost costs $50,000 (it was $15,000). That's a good picture of how Towny money works: cheap to hold ground, expensive to spread out. Prices like these get tweaked, so expect them to move.

Bedrock: per its changelog, Bedrock players now have the resource pack, so Bedrock is supported. One known issue is that skins you apply don't show up for Bedrock clients.

The store: CYT sells coin packs: 800 coins for $7.59, 1,500 for $13.99, 4,000 for $33.99, 8,000 for $61.99 and 15,000 for $109.99. Coins buy supporter ranks. Iron, Gold, Diamond, Emerald and Obsidian are lifetime ranks at 1,500, 3,000, 6,000, 9,500 and 14,000 coins. Netherite is monthly at 1,000 coins and needs Obsidian. The perks lean toward convenience: /fly from Diamond up, auto-smelt, portable crafting tables and anvils, an item filter, /fix, more homes (from 10 to unlimited) and extra auction-house slots. Flying and auto-smelt change how you play, so I wouldn't call this cosmetic-only. Its perks page says "lifetime" means the lifetime of the server, perks can change, and ranks are non-refundable.

CastiaMC: a handcrafted Towny kingdom since 2016

CastiaMC bills itself as a "Towny Kingdom" and a handcrafted Towny survival server, established in 2016. You create or join a town on one custom world. Around that are six skills, a player market with player shops, quests, daily rewards and 450+ custom items. Join at play.castiamc.com. It's Java only, and the site asks for 1.21 or newer.

The store: the site says "Free to play · No P2W · Moderated since 2016". That's Castia's own line. The rank store sells five ranks: Ghoul $11.51, Wraith $28.78, Harpy $57.58, Wyvern $86.37 and Hydra $143.96. Going up the ranks takes you from 5 to 25 homes and from 1 to 5 private vaults, along with a stack of convenience perks. The store also has Gemstones, Bombs and gear categories, so have a look at those before you take "no P2W" at face value.

A Towny Server: small, near-vanilla, Java only

The name is the pitch. A Towny Server describes itself as a Java server with a close-to-vanilla feel, plus Towny and a few economy plugins. The economy is player-driven. Ranks are bought with in-game currency and give extra claims, jobs and backpacks, and there are cosmetics and anti-cheat. The site says "strictly no pay-to-win" and that donors get no advantage. Join at play.atownyserver.com. No version is stated on the page.

Not so good: it was empty when I loaded it on October 18, 2026. If a sleepy, quiet start is what you want, that could suit you. If you want a crowded nation war, look elsewhere.

Minecraft Towny servers on Bedrock

Towny is a Java plugin, so Bedrock players get in through Geyser, a translation layer the server has to run. Of these four, LumaMC is the one that spells it out: add play.lumamc.net as the server address with port 19132. CraftYourTown's changelog says Bedrock is supported, so check its site for how to connect. CastiaMC and A Towny Server are Java only.

On Luma's Bedrock page, you give up a few things. The Seasons world has no seasonal water or grass colours, there are no RGB colours, no wraps or furniture in your inventory, and no chat heads. If you own both editions, you can link accounts at link.geysermc.org or with /linkaccount so your town status and inventory follow you. Stuck adding a server? My guide on how to join a Minecraft server covers it. On Xbox, PlayStation or Switch, where there's no Add Server button, my guide to Minecraft servers to join has the console workarounds.

Earth-map Towny servers

Towny also powers the big real-world-map servers like EarthMC and DiplomaticaMC, where towns and nations carve up a scaled-down copy of the planet. I keep those in my roundup of Minecraft Earth servers, with their addresses and how to get started.
