Most lists of Minecraft faction servers tag servers "Factions" without checking whether they actually run it. Some of the big names that keep turning up are all Prison, Skyblock and Cobblemon on their own sites, with no factions in sight. So this list is short. Every server below runs factions according to its own website, and all four were online on October 12, 2026. Wherever a store shows what it sells, it's here, so you can judge the pay-to-win question yourself. Player counts are one moment on one day, not a promise.
New to it? On a factions server you team up into a faction, claim land, build a base, and raid enemy bases with TNT and cannons to take their stuff. Most servers run in seasons, and the map gets wiped every so often.
OG, OP and Comp: the flavours of factions
- OG (classic) factions stays close to vanilla gear, usually with 1.8-style PvP. Raids come down to cannons, timing and how well you built your walls.
- OP factions piles on custom enchants, overpowered gear and spawners. Everything's bigger and grindier.
- Comp factions is the competitive take on OG. Mineage splits its modes into "Comp Factions", "OG Factions" and "HCF", and players use the same labels.
Directories also talk about "OG" versus "Modern" factions, where modern means custom gear and fancier TNT mechanics. Same split, different words.

Complex Gaming Factions: raid everything, crossplay, four-week maps
Complex has a whole page just for factions, and its pitch is pure raiding: build TNT cannons and use custom creeper eggs to blow into enemy bases and steal their spawners. Raid claims (/f claim) last 12 hours, and base claims (/f baseclaim) last the whole season. Seasons are short. Every map lasts 4 weeks, then the server resets with a fresh map and new updates.
Java and Bedrock both connect at hub.mc-complex.com, with Bedrock on port 19132, and it's full crossplay. Java 1.12.2 through the latest version can join. It showed 1,032 players online on its Factions page when I checked.
Good: a real factions crowd, crossplay on one address, and a quick reset cycle, so a bad season isn't the end of the world.
The store: Complex says it's free to play and that ranks, crate keys and other perks are optional. The store wants your Minecraft username before it'll show what a rank or key actually gives you, so have a look before you decide how optional it feels. Checked October 2026.
InsanityCraft: Lifesteal Factions, not classic factions
InsanityCraft runs Survival SMP, Skyblock and something it calls Lifesteal Factions. That's a hybrid: factions with the lifesteal heart-stealing rule mixed in. It isn't classic factions, so if you want the original thing, look elsewhere. If losing hearts on top of losing your base sounds fun, this is the one.
Java players join at play.insanitycraft.net. On Bedrock, use the same address with port 19132. Its directory listing showed 2,920 of 3,000 slots full when I looked, but that's the whole server, not just factions.
Good: busy, crossplay, and a twist the other three don't have.
Not so good: its homepage doesn't spell out the reset schedule, cannon rules or claim limits, so ask in-game before you commit to a base. And open the store yourself before you assume anything about pay-to-win. Checked October 2026.
PikaNetwork OP Factions: fresh season, big store
OP Factions is one of PikaNetwork's game modes, with its own forum section and active announcements. A new season kicked off on October 9, 2026 at 17:00 GMT with a new spawn, a new seasonal crate, a rotating gold shop and new Goblin Shop weapons. If you've been waiting for a fresh map, this one just started. Join at play.pika-network.net. Pika's pages don't say whether Bedrock players can get into OP Factions, so check before you promise your Bedrock friends a spot. It had 1,503 online when I checked, but that's the whole network.
Good: a brand-new season, an active forum, and the full OP experience if custom gear is your thing.
The store: this one's plainly pay-to-win. The OP Factions category sells permanent ranks with "special perks, abilities, and kits": Pro $22, Hero $56, Lord $112, Legend $168, God $280 and Immortal $448. It also sells Gold, an in-game currency, from $11 for 1,000 up to $280 for 25,000 (37,500 with the bonus). Those are October 2026 prices, and stores change them. Checked October 2026.
Mineage: 1.8 OG factions with real rules
Mineage is the pick if you miss old-school factions. Its tagline is "Keeping the best Minecraft gamemodes alive", and it runs 1.8 Competitive Factions, 1.8 Factions (the OG mode) and 1.8 HCF. Join at mineage.net. It's Java only, and it recommends 1.8.9 for the intended combat. It had 206 players online when I checked.
The OG map has a growing border, 10,000 blocks out from the centre in early October 2026 and widening as the map goes on. The map does reset, but Mineage doesn't publish a fixed cycle. There's a Tutorial Pass and a kit system too.
What I like most is the rulebook, the most detailed I've seen on a factions server. Factions max out at 20 players, power is 60 per player and drops 5 per death, and there are no raid shields and no grace period. Obsidian takes 5 TNT hits and end stone takes 10. Combat tag and pearl cooldown are both 15 seconds.
Good: classic combat, a clear published ruleset, and a crowd that's there for exactly this.
The store: a Token Allowance subscription, $20 a month on discount (normally $25), gets you 2,500 tokens a month, and there are one-off token packs too. Tokens buy ranks in /tokenshop, and custom enchants are bought with in-game currency through /ce. It's a different shape from Pika's one-off whale ranks, but not necessarily lighter. Prices as of October 2026.
Is there a factions server that isn't pay-to-win?
That's what everyone asks, and among these four there's no clean answer. Here's what each store shows. Complex sells "optional" ranks and crate keys you have to log in to inspect. Pika sells permanent perk ranks up to $448, plus currency. Mineage sells a monthly token subscription that turns into ranks. InsanityCraft's store you'll have to open yourself. Decide what you can live with.
Reddit's r/factions is full of smaller servers pitching themselves as "no pay-to-win". Some of them might be. Treat the badge as marketing until you've read the store page with your own eyes.
Minecraft faction servers on Bedrock
Two of the four work from Bedrock: Complex Gaming at hub.mc-complex.com, port 19132, and InsanityCraft at play.insanitycraft.net, port 19132. Mineage is Java only, and Pika's Bedrock support is unconfirmed, so don't count on it. Pure Bedrock-only factions servers are rarer and much harder to pin down, so if you find one, check it's alive before you invite your friends. Stuck at the Add Server step on a console? Does Hypixel have factions?
No. Hypixel's own site doesn't list a Factions mode today. Its lineup is SkyBlock, Bed Wars, SkyWars and the rest of its minigames. If it's the big-network feel you're after, my roundup of Minecraft servers like Hypixel sorts the alternatives by edition.
What to check before you join a factions server
- Map life. How long before the reset? A base you want to keep for months needs a long map, not a 4-week one.
- Cannon rules. Mineage is the worked example: several cannon designs are banned outright, including ones that go through multiple walls at once, you wait 20 minutes after your last shot before switching cannons, and raids are capped at two attempts per 24 hours after the start of the week. Read these before you build a cannon, not after you're banned for one.
- Claims and power. Faction size caps, power lost per death and how long claims last shape the whole game.
- Grace periods. Some servers give new factions breathing room. Mineage gives you none.
- Griefing rules. What counts as a legit raid and what gets you banned? Find the rules page and read it.
- The store. Open it. Every time.
Run your own factions map
Want your own map, your own reset schedule and a store that sells nothing? My walkthrough on how to make a Minecraft server takes you through running one for your group.
So which factions server should you join?
Busy, raid-everything, on Java or Bedrock, with a fresh map every four weeks? Complex. Miss 1.8 combat and like clear rules? Mineage. Love OP gear and want in on a brand-new season? Pika, if you're fine with what its store sells. Factions with lifesteal on top? InsanityCraft. And if the base-building is what you love and getting TNT'd at 3am isn't, my list of the best Minecraft SMP servers is the calmer side of the same idea.
Tired of buying your way back to even?
Folly is an upcoming standalone voxel game. It's free, no purchases required, with no loot boxes or pay-to-win, and it isn't Minecraft. Your universe starts as one small island in the void, and it's yours permanently. It's not a factions game, and you can't play it yet: early access opens on PC on October 16, 2026. Here's how Folly's island works.
