Is Enshrouded cross-platform? No. Enshrouded 1.0 came out on October 15, 2026 on PC (Steam) and PS5, and there's no crossplay between them. A PC player can't join a PS5 player's world, and the other way round. Keen Games has said it's working on crossplay but hasn't given a date.
Xbox Series X|S is planned for spring 2027. That's a plan, not a release date, and Keen hasn't said whether Xbox will get crossplay either. So as of October 2026, the short version for a mixed group is: everyone needs to be on the same platform.
Enshrouded crossplay: who can play with who
| Pairing | Play together? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PC ↔ PC | Yes | Co-op for up to 16 players on Steam |
| PS5 ↔ PS5 | Yes | Stays inside the PS5 player pool |
| PC ↔ PS5 | No | No crossplay at 1.0, no date given |
| Xbox ↔ anything | Not out yet | Xbox Series X|S planned for spring 2027; crossplay plans not stated |
Steam Deck and GeForce Now players are playing the Steam copy, so they count as PC and can join PC friends.
What Keen has said about crossplay
Keen has been consistent about this. Around the 1.0 launch it said Enshrouded wouldn't be cross-platform at launch, that it's working on adding crossplay, and that it can't estimate how long that will take. Back in July, Keen's technical director told Eurogamer that crossplay wouldn't be ready for 1.0.
So the honest read is "planned, not scheduled". I wouldn't buy a second copy on a different platform betting on it landing soon. Keen also hasn't announced cross-save or cross-progression, so your character and world stay on the platform where you started them.
Is Enshrouded on Xbox?
Not yet. The Xbox Series X|S version is planned for spring 2027, and Keen announced that in June 2026 when it set the PC and PS5 date for 1.0. Whether Xbox players will be able to join PC or PS5 players is something Keen hasn't said. If you're an Xbox player with PC friends, you're waiting on two things, the port and a crossplay update, and only the first has a window.
Enshrouded dedicated servers are PC-only
If you've been reading that a dedicated server fixes the crossplay problem, it doesn't. Keen's dedicated server is installed through Steam, and it's a PC feature. PS5 players can't join a Steam-based server, whichever host runs it. I'd be wary of any hosting page that advertises a "PS5-ready" Enshrouded server.
For PC groups, a server is still worth it. It shows up in the in-game server browser (there's a filter for dedicated servers), your character's progress is stored on your own machine, and the world's progress lives on the server. Setup steps can shift between patches, so follow Keen's support site for the current install guide. If you're after a similar game with different multiplayer options, my picks for games like Enshrouded are a good starting point.
What to do today with a mixed group
- Everyone has a PC: you're fine. Play together on Steam, up to 16 of you, or run a dedicated server.
- Everyone has a PS5: also fine. Just keep the whole group on PS5.
- PC plus PS5: pick one platform and have the odd one out buy the game there. Or wait. There's no workaround, and I wouldn't trust any video that claims there is.
- Someone's waiting on Xbox: spring 2027 at the earliest for the game itself. Don't plan around crossplay with it.
- Want a game your whole group can share right now? Some survival crafters already have crossplay: Valheim plays across PC, Xbox, PS5 and Switch 2, and 7 Days to Die works across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Skip Core Keeper for this one, since it doesn't mix PC and console either. I also covered Terraria's crossplay situation, and there's a roundup of games like Valheim if you want more options.
Will Enshrouded get crossplay?
Probably eventually, since Keen says it's working on it. When is the open question. Crossplay is one of those things that can change in any patch, so check Keen's announcements before you make a purchase decision. Until then, the answer to "can my PC friend and my PS5 friend play together" is no.
