Is 7 Days to Die cross-platform? Yes, on current hardware. PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can all play together. The older PS4 and Xbox One versions can't. As of October 2026 the current stable build is V3.3.0, and crossplay comes with a few strings: Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) has to be on, mods are out, and everyone needs to be on the same game version.
Crossplay games are capped at 8 players. That's plenty for a blood moon squad, but it matters if you were hoping for a big community server. Here's the full pair-by-pair picture and how to actually get your friends into one world.
7 Days to Die crossplay: who can play with who
| Pairing | Play together? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PC ↔ PS5 | Yes | PC client needs EAC on and no mods |
| PC ↔ Xbox Series X|S | Yes | Same rules |
| PS5 ↔ Xbox Series X|S | Yes | Same rules |
| PS4 or Xbox One (legacy version) ↔ anything else | No | The old builds don't have crossplay |
Crossplay shipped in V1.2 in December 2024, and The Fun Pimps say it's incompatible with older versions of the game. Players on different versions can't join each other either, so if a console friend can't find your game, check you're both on the same build. Console updates can land a bit after PC.
When did 7 Days to Die get crossplay?
Two steps, and a lot of guides blur them.
- V1.2 (December 2024): peer-to-peer crossplay. One player hosts from their own game and friends on other platforms join them. No dedicated servers yet.
- V2.0 "Storm's Brewing" (June 2025): crossplay on dedicated servers, up to 8 players, with friends on different platforms.
How to join a crossplay game
Option 1: a friend hosts (peer-to-peer)
- On every platform, go to Options > General and turn Crossplay Enabled on.
- On PC, start the game with EAC on and with no mods.
- The host sets the player count to 8 or fewer and the world size to 8192 or smaller. Bigger than that and the game won't show up in the browser.
- Everyone else searches the server browser. On console you search by the host's player name, not the savegame name. Make sure you're searching the right region and hit refresh.
If it's still not working on console, check your console's security settings allow crossplay.
Option 2: a dedicated server
Console players use the in-game server browser. Servers with settings that work for consoles in your region show up in the list. If a server's settings aren't console-compatible, it simply won't appear for you. That's the usual reason a PC friend can see a server and you can't. A dedicated server doesn't need anyone to be online to keep it running, which is the big win over hosting from a friend's PC. The Fun Pimps list Bluefang, PingPerfect, Frag, Nitrado and GPORTAL as hosting partners.
What a crossplay server needs
If you run the server, these four settings in serverconfig.xml are required for console players to get in:
ServerMaxPlayerCountat 8 or lessServerAllowCrossplayset toTrueEACEnabledset toTrueIgnoreEOSSanctionsset toFalse
Past those, there are limits on gameplay settings too, like XP multiplier, day length, blood moon enemy count, airdrop frequency, block damage and loot. PC players can join regardless of settings. Consoles can't. The limits can change, so go to the official crossplay server requirements page for the current numbers instead of trusting a blog, me included.
One more thing: crossplay runs through Epic Online Services, and an EOS ban means you get disconnected.
Why modded servers break crossplay
Crossplay doesn't support mods of any kind. PC players have to run an unmodified client with EAC on, and PS5 and Xbox Series clients can't join dedicated servers with mods at all. So the moment a server runs mods, it's PC-only. If your group is mixed, you've got a choice: vanilla together, or modded on PC and everyone else sits it out. I'd go vanilla with the console folks and save the big overhaul mods for a PC-only night.
What if you're on PS4 or Xbox One?
Then you're on the legacy version, and it's frozen out of crossplay. Your options are to play with other people on the same legacy console, or move to PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC. Whether that's worth it is your call, but if your friends are on current hardware and you're the one holding the group back, that's the only route in.
Which setup for your group
- All PC: anything goes, mods included.
- PC plus PS5 or Xbox Series: vanilla, EAC on, 8 players max. A hosting partner's dedicated server is the least hassle.
- Anyone on PS4 or Xbox One: same legacy console as them, or upgrade.
