The Best Pixelmon Servers in 2026 (Server IPs, Which Pixelmon Version, and How to Get In)

Six Pixelmon servers that were up this week, how to get the right build for each, and a straight look at what their stores sell.

Most lists of Pixelmon servers give you an IP and stop there. Paste one into plain Minecraft and you'll bounce straight off. Pixelmon is a mod for Minecraft Java Edition, so you have to install it before you can join, and it has to be the exact version the server runs. Current builds are for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. Older ones ran on Forge, and plenty of servers still sit on those older builds. If your Pixelmon doesn't match the server's, you won't connect.

So every server below comes with its address, its Minecraft and Pixelmon version where the server itself says, and how to get the mod onto your PC. All six were up when I checked on October 13, 2026. Player counts are one moment on one day, not a promise.

Get the right Pixelmon version first

The mod lives at reforged.gg. As of October 2026 it lists two current builds, both for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge:

Both need Java 21, and most launchers ship it for you. The older Forge builds are still on the same page because servers still use them: 9.2.10 for Minecraft 1.20.2, 9.1.13 for 1.16.5, and 8.4.3 for 1.12.2. Whatever the server runs, that's what you install.

The easy way in is a launcher. reforged.gg links ATLauncher, CurseForge, Technic and Modrinth, and two of the servers below, SmashMC and AnubisMC, use a Technic pack that sets everything up for you. If you grab the jar by hand, the download goes through an ad link page. Limitless's install guide says it bluntly: "Do not click on a ad! make sure you hit skip."

The name trips people up too. reforged.gg now calls it "Pixelmon Mod", while the wiki, the Technic pack and most servers still say "Pixelmon Reforged". Today they mean the same thing.

Is Pixelmon still alive? A two-line history

The original team ended development in July 2017. Polygon quoted admin MrMasochism saying "after a request from the Pokémon company we will be shutting our doors." The mod didn't vanish, though. It's maintained at reforged.gg today, and 9.4.1 is the latest release. Stick to reforged.gg and the launchers it links, not whatever old download turns up in search.

Is there an official Pixelmon server?

Not according to the Pixelmon team. Its wiki FAQ has said it plainly since 2020: "There are no official servers, and anybody claiming otherwise is lying to you." Everything here is fan-run. The team points people to the #servers channel on the Pixelmon Discord and to Technic for finding them.

Look at the version column. The four that say span three Minecraft versions, from 1.12.2 to 1.21.1. That's normal for Pixelmon, and it's why you pick the server first and install second.

SmashMC: the busiest one I found

SmashMC had 105 players online on its own site when I checked, the most of the six. You join with the "SmashMC Pixelmon" Technic pack (v3.94, Minecraft 1.16.5). The pack picks the right Pixelmon build, so don't mix in your own. The address on SmashMC's own site is play.smashmc.co. Some lists show a different one, so use that.

The pitch is shiny starters, a custom texture pack and Warzone, where you battle other players for shinies, textured Pokémon and legendaries. The pack had been updated three months before I looked and showed 66K installs on Technic.

Good: a real crowd, and a one-pack install that handles the version question for you.

Not so good: it's on Minecraft 1.16.5, while current Pixelmon is on 1.21.1, and the pack wants at least 2 GB of RAM. There's a store at store.smashmc.co, so look through it before you get attached. Checked October 2026.

Limitless Pixelmon: survival with a market and bounties

Limitless runs the newest Pixelmon of the lot: 9.4.1 on Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge. Join at play.limitlessmc.net. It says it's been a Pixelmon server for more than nine years. Its focus is survival, with hourly bounty-hunt quests, a custom market where prices follow demand, guilds and teams, tournaments and gyms. Ranks can be earned through voting and filling your Pokédex.

Its install page is refreshingly clear. It gives you the exact jar (Pixelmon-1.21.1-9.4.1-universal.jar) and says its links always match what the server runs. There's one catch. The page links NeoForge 21.1.216, but reforged.gg says 9.4.1 needs NeoForge 21.1.248 or newer. Limitless itself says "or the latest for 1.21.1", so take the newest 1.21.1 NeoForge and skip the headache.

Good: a current build, a real economy, and ranks you can earn by playing.

Not so good: 9.4.1 is a beta build. Its site doesn't show a player count, and the one directory count I saw was low. There's a shop at shop.limitlessmc.net, so open it yourself. Checked October 2026.

HexagonMC.eu: a German server with a Pokémon League

HexagonMC is German-language, so bear that in mind before you join. It runs Minecraft 1.21.1 with Pixelmon 9.3.16, the current recommended build, through its own launcher. The address is hexagonmc.eu. There's a lot on the list: Freebuild plots, eight player-run arenas, a Pokémon League with a Top 4 and a champion, a Kampfzone with a battle zone and tower, dungeons, a skill system, a Battlepass and farm worlds that reset regularly.

Good: a recommended build and the most structured league setup here.

Not so good: it was quiet when I looked, with 2 of 100 online, and its newest news posts date from 2025. It has a shop at shop.hexagonmc.eu and a wiki page for real-money ranks ("Echtgeld Ränge"), so read both before you spend anything. Checked October 2026.

TriverseMC: the 1.12.2 option

TriverseMC runs Pixelmon Reforged 8.4.3 on Minecraft 1.12.2, the old Forge line, and says so right on its home page. Join at play.triversemc.net and follow the install guide on its site. It has gyms, championships, regular tournaments, a grief-protected world, and separate Core and Dex realms.

Good: if you specifically want 1.12.2-era Pixelmon, it's clearly labelled and easy to match.

Not so good: only 3 people were online when I checked, and you're on a build years older than current Pixelmon. There are two stores, PikaCore and Pikadex, so check what they sell. Checked October 2026.

AnubisMC: quests, streaks and a busy store

AnubisMC uses the Technic "PokémonUltra Modpack", and its join steps end with "Receive your free Master Ball!" The address is play.anubismc.com. Its site doesn't state a Pixelmon build, so check AnubisMC's Discord or wiki for the current version before you install anything outside the pack. A forum post from August 2024 lays out tiered quests with prestige and daily missions on an 8-hour cooldown, with a 48-hour streak rule.

The store: buy.anubismc.com sells Ranks, Upgrades, Keys, Exotic Eggs, Items, Packs, Kits and Cosmetics. When I looked there was a 15% sale on, with an Exotic Egg at $8.16, down from $9.60. Keys, eggs and packs from a cash shop are where the pay-to-win question starts, so decide how you feel about that.

Good: a structured quest system with streaks if you like daily goals.

Not so good: only 6 online when I checked, and the version isn't printed on the site. Checked October 2026.

PixelmonMMO: tons of content, and a store that sells loot boxes

PixelmonMMO is the sprawling one. Its wiki lists nine story regions with quest lines (/quest), skills, 35 dungeons, Shadow Pokémon, world-boss raids, ranked PvP, player gyms, a Grand Exchange, plus parkour, skyblock and prison worlds. Its pages don't say which Pixelmon or Minecraft version you need, so check its Discord or wiki first. Once you've got the right build installed, add pixelmonmmo.com and accept the resource pack. Two directories showed 24 of 100 online. Its own site doesn't show a count.

The store: here's the straight version. Mystery Keys go from $10.99 for 15 to $100 for 200. Texture Keys "roll a random custom texture Pokémon, including many Legendaries", from $8.25 for one up to $225 for 64. PokePacks run from $2.50 for a single to $21.50 for a box, and supply bags cost $5.50 to $24.50. Bonds from $10 to $500 move you up donor ranks. Paying real money for random rolls at legendaries and shinies is loot-box monetisation, plain and simple. Its directory blurb calls the server "anti-pay2win". Read the price list and judge that for yourself. One odd twist: when someone buys keys, bags or packs, everyone online gets them too. Only bonds and the BattlePass Scroll go to the buyer alone. Prices as of October 2026.

Good: the most content of any server here by a mile.

Not so good: the random-roll store, and you have to dig for the version. Checked October 2026.

Pixelmon servers with quests

You get quests at two levels. The mod has its own. Pixelmon 9.2.10 swapped its old quest system for a Research and Assignment feature. Then 9.4.0 added an onboarding research system with 23 tutorial and progression quests, plus more research chains. So a server on a 9.4 build, like Limitless, gets those on top of whatever the server adds.

Then the servers add their own: Limitless's hourly bounty hunts, AnubisMC's tiered quests and daily missions, and PixelmonMMO's story regions. If quests are why you're here, start with PixelmonMMO or AnubisMC.

Are Pixelmon servers free?

None of the six showed an entry fee when I checked. The money's in the stores. AnubisMC sells ranks, keys, exotic eggs, packs, kits and cosmetics. PixelmonMMO sells random-roll keys and packs. Limitless lets you earn ranks by voting and filling your Pokédex. The other stores you'll have to open yourself, and it's worth doing that before you sink a week into any of them.

Pixelmon servers on Bedrock?

There aren't any. Pixelmon is a Java Edition mod. The Pixelmon wiki says it can't be installed on the Windows 10, console or Pocket editions, and current builds run on NeoForge, which Bedrock can't load. So no server or realm can give a Bedrock player Pixelmon. Bedrock does have Pokémon-style add-ons, but those aren't Pixelmon and won't connect you to any server on this page. If you're on Bedrock or console and just want a good server, my guide to Minecraft servers to join covers getting on from Xbox, PlayStation or Switch.

Pixelmon or Cobblemon?

Cobblemon is a separate Pokémon-style mod. Cobblemon servers use Fabric packs from Modrinth, while Pixelmon runs on NeoForge, so they're separate installs. Pixelmon server lists mix in Cobblemon servers now. Harmony and Pokecentral both still sit in Pixelmon directories, but both have switched to Cobblemon. If that's the mod you actually want, my list of modded Minecraft servers has four Cobblemon servers with their exact packs.

What to check before you join a Pixelmon server

Rather run your own Pixelmon world?

If you'd rather play with a few friends than a few hundred strangers, host it yourself. My guide on how to make a modded Minecraft server walks you through getting a modpack running for your group. If you don't want to pay for it, my comparison of free Minecraft server hosting covers the free routes and their limits.

So which Pixelmon server should you join?

Want people around tonight with no version fuss? SmashMC, through its Technic pack. Want current Pixelmon and an economy you can grind? Limitless. Speak German and want a proper league? HexagonMC. Want 1.12.2-era Pixelmon? TriverseMC. Want quests and streaks? AnubisMC. Want the biggest pile of content and don't mind a loot-box store? PixelmonMMO. Whichever you pick, install the version it runs before you paste the IP. That's the step that gets you playing tonight.
