Is Mineplex safe? Mostly, yes, with the usual public-server caveats. The old Mineplex closed in May 2023, but a revived version is running now, and joining it works like joining any other Minecraft server. The real risks are boring ones: strangers in chat, scam links, and a store where every purchase is final. As of late October 2026, here's what's actually running, how to spot the official one, and what to watch if a kid is playing.
Is Mineplex back? What it is now
Yes. The revived network is live at play.mineplex.com. The official site and store carry a footer reading "Copyright © Revived Network LTD 2026" and say they aren't affiliated with Mojang or Minecraft. The public relaunch was in June 2026, and the homepage lists 18 games, including Bridges, Champions, Survival Games, Cake Wars, Minestrike, Block Hunt, Clans and One Block.
The short history, since everyone asks "why did Mineplex get shut down?": the network went offline in May 2023. The reasons usually cited are a long decline after its peak, competition from Hypixel, lag and exploits, monetization complaints and fewer updates after 2020. Mineplex's official Discord later pointed to operational and financial sustainability. A former admin then bought it, ran closed betas, and the project later changed hands again before the June 2026 relaunch.
How to get in, per the official site:
- Java: Multiplayer, then Add Server, address
play.mineplex.com, with server resource packs set to Enabled. - Bedrock: Play, then "Creator Multiplayer" in the top right, Add server, address
play.mineplex.com, port19132. - Console: sign in with your Microsoft account, go to Play, then Friends, add the friend
JoinMineplexand join from "Joinable Friends".
The FAQ lists Java 1.8.9, Java 1.21+ and Bedrock 26.23+. Java and Bedrock share one server, and some games are still Java-only or modern-only while they're fixed up for Bedrock. New to adding servers? Here's how to join a Minecraft server.
Spotting the real Mineplex
A famous name that went dark for years is perfect bait for lookalike sites. The official pieces are:
- The website and forums at mineplex.com.
- The store at store.mineplex.com.
- The server address
play.mineplex.com. - Social and Discord links reached from the footer of mineplex.com.
The official domain is .com. Only follow links you reach from mineplex.com, and type the address yourself instead of trusting a link from a video or DM. If a page asks you to download a launcher or "client" to play, it isn't the way Mineplex says to join.
Is it safe to join? What staff say
Staff answered this on the official forum in October 2026: connecting doesn't give the server access to your computer or your Minecraft account, same as any multiplayer server. Their advice is to keep your client updated, be careful with third-party mods and downloads, watch out for scam links both outside and inside the community, and open a support ticket if you have a specific exploit worry. That's the operator talking, so treat it as their word, not an independent audit. It matches what I'd tell you about any big server: joining is low-risk, and what you click afterwards is where trouble starts.
Chat, voice and moderation
The rules page bans spam, bypassing the chat filter, toxic behavior, sexual conduct, hate speech, threats and self-harm talk, advertising other servers, scamming, unapproved account or content trades, and sharing personal information. Punishments vary by severity, and you appeal through the Support Hub. Staff can't remove a punishment on request. Without a rank, expect a 3-second wait between chat messages and ads in chat: the store sells ranks with "Removes Chat Delay" and "Removes In-Game Chat Ads" as perks.
Voice chat is new. Since October 15, 2026, Mineplex officially supports Simple Voice Chat, a free, Java-only, proximity-voice mod. Everyone talking needs the mod, and Bedrock players can't use it. Mineplex's own thread calls it third-party software, not made or maintained by Mineplex, and says to use it at your own risk. Only download it from Modrinth or CurseForge. The personal-information rule applies to voice chat too. For a younger player, I'd skip the voice mod entirely.
How to report someone
- In game:
/report username, or/ato message staff who are online. - On the website: the Player Reports page. It doesn't take chat reports or screenshots.
- On Discord: the
/reportcommand. - Staff behaving badly: Support Tickets.
The store: prices and the no-refund rule
Mineplex is free to join, but there's a store, billed through Tebex. Prices as of late October 2026, and they bounce around, so check the storefront:
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Crystals | 1,000 for $10; 2,500 for $25; 5,000 for $50; 11,000 (10,000 plus a 1,000 bonus) for $100 |
| Elite rank | $14.99 one-time |
| Mythic rank | $49.99 one-time |
| Celestial rank | $9.99 every 30 days (subscription) |
| Divine rank | $19.99 every 30 days (subscription) |
The line that matters: the store says "Purchases are FINAL and will not be refunded. Chargebacks result in a network ban." Deliveries should land within 15 minutes, and if nothing arrives after 24 hours, email support@mineplex.com. Don't dispute a payment with your bank as a shortcut, because that gets the account banned. To cancel a subscription, use the link in your first email or Tebex's payment history with the signup email.
Ranks bring gem bonuses, queue-skipping priority access, bigger parties and cosmetics, and the two subscription ranks allow Mineplex Player Servers. Mineplex also isn't a Minecraft Bedrock partner, so there are no Minecoin purchases. The Divine rank includes a /disguise command to appear under another name and rank, a good reason to be skeptical of anyone claiming to be staff. Whatever your age, decide who holds the card before the first "can I get a rank?".
Old purchases: the FAQ says you won't get ranks, stats or cosmetics from the old server, and that for purchases from the last three years they don't have the data and can't acknowledge or compensate them. Old profiles are meant to be viewable through a web portal "soon".
Is Mineplex safe for kids?
Mineplex's website and forum terms say you must be at least 13. Past that, it's a public server with public chat, a chat filter and a staff team (Trainee, Moderator, Developer, Admin), so I'd treat it like any busy lobby: fine for a teen with ground rules, something to sit in on first for a younger one. The Microsoft side, such as who can talk to your child, is covered in my guides to Minecraft parental controls and whether Minecraft is safe for kids.
Sensible precautions
- Join only from
play.mineplex.comor the official site's instructions. - Skip the voice mod for younger players, and never install anything from a link in chat.
- Teach
/reportbefore the first match. - Agree on spending first, and remember purchases are final.
- Use a unique password and two-factor authentication on the Microsoft account.

Something different, coming soon
Folly is a free multiplayer voxel game, coming soon in early access, where every player gets a personal island and a portal to a shared hub. It's not a Minecraft server. Here's how it works without Minecraft, or you can claim a universe name.
