If you searched for Roblox Skyblock and landed on a game page with nobody in it, here's the short version: the original Roblox Skyblock was renamed Islands back in 2020, and Islands is still up and still busy. There are a couple of other skyblock-style experiences worth a look too. My bar for this list: it has to play like skyblock (or close enough to scratch the itch), and it has to have people in it right now. Everything below is as of October 2026, and Roblox player counts swing all day, so treat them as snapshots.
What happened to Roblox Skyblock?
The game by Easy.gg started life as "Sky Block", heavily inspired by Minecraft skyblock. In June 2020 it was renamed "Skyblox", and in mid-July 2020 it was pulled down after a DMCA complaint. It came back on 17 July 2020 under the name Islands, which it still uses. Players noticed fast: there was a Reddit thread mourning it that same July, and a petition to bring "Skyblox" back from people worried about losing what they'd paid for. Easy.gg said progress wouldn't be lost, and the game carried on as Islands.
Why it was pulled depends on who you ask. Easy.gg's own line at the time was that they were forced to change the name after talking with Roblox about a DMCA request. Community posts from the time told other stories, and none of the accounts line up. I wouldn't trust anyone who tells you the whole story with confidence. The part that's solid: same game, new name.
Roblox Islands (the old Roblox Skyblock)
Islands is the one most people actually mean. You build up your own island, run big farms, raise animals, sell stuff, cook, and head out to loot monsters and bosses. It's more farming-and-building sandbox than a strict "start on one tree block" skyblock, but the DNA is obviously there.
- Status: playable and busy. When I checked it had about 576 people in it, with over 2.3 billion visits overall. Roblox shows it last updated in January 2026.
- Updates: Easy.gg announced in November 2023 that Islands wouldn't get further updates, though it'd stay public. So expect the game as it is, not a roadmap.
- Rating: Roblox labels it Minimal, "Suitable for everyone".
- Paid bits: passes exist (the game's controls list puts freecam behind a VIP or PRO pass), so look at the store tab before anyone gets attached.
Who it's for: anyone who wants the original, and kids who like cozy farm-and-build loops. Who should skip it: anyone chasing fresh content.
Skyblock (by Default Cube Games)
This is the closest thing on Roblox to classic skyblock, and it's the one I'd try first if "classic" is what you're after. You start on a tiny island above the void, mine and craft your way out to new islands, then step through a portal into an Underworld. Crops, gear crafting, and areas like snowy peaks, mines and desert ruins fill out the rest.
- Status: live and recently touched. About 400 players when I looked, updated in late October 2026. It's a much smaller game than Islands, at around 4.5 million visits.
- Rating: Roblox labels it Mild (violence). Servers hold 8 players.
Skybase Tycoon
Not true skyblock. It's a tycoon with a skyblock-flavored coat of paint. You start small, expand your skybase, collect resources, and use a rebirth system to start over with bonuses. There's a bonus for playing with friends, and redeemable codes.
- Status: live, but quieter: around 47 players at the time, updated in July 2026, 32 million-plus visits.
- Rating: Minimal, with occasional mild violence. Servers hold 6.
- Paid bits: the page advertises passes with exclusive perks, so check what they cost before anyone gets attached.
Pick it if you like number-goes-up tycoons. If you want to mine and craft your way across the void, go back to the Default Cube game above.
Skyblock games on Roblox to skip
Search for "roblox skyblock" and you'll hit a couple of skyblock-named experiences that had nobody playing when I checked, including one that's been sitting near the top of the results. An idle server list is a good reason to move on, since a survival game with no one else online is just a lonely tree.
A quick word for parents
Those age labels come from each game's own page on Roblox, so read them there before you hand over a tablet. For the bigger picture on chat, spending and what to set up first, my guide to safe games like Roblox for kids covers it, and if your family is shopping around more broadly, there's the roundup of free games like Roblox.
Want skyblock outside Roblox?
Skyblock started in Minecraft, and that's still where the deepest versions live. My list of the best skyblock servers is the place to start, and the history of skyblock explains how a single survival map turned into a whole genre.
Skyblock without Minecraft or Roblox
Folly is a standalone game that's coming soon to PC in early access: you get a personal island in the void with a portal to a shared hub. I wrote up how that loop works in skyblock without Minecraft.
