Is 2b2t safe? It depends which kind of safe you mean. For your PC and account, joining is just a normal multiplayer connection, and the risk is what you click or download once you're in. For your stuff, no: anarchy means griefing and dying are the whole point. For kids, my answer is a flat no. That's the picture as of late October 2026.
If you're after the quick version: join with the normal launcher, don't click links in chat, don't install anything another player pushes at you, and don't build anything you'd miss. Parents, skip to the kids section.
What 2b2t is, in one paragraph
2b2t is a Minecraft server that started in December 2010, and it's usually called the oldest and most infamous anarchy server. The address is 2b2t.org. It runs Minecraft 1.21.4 as of late 2026, difficulty is permanently hard, PvP is on, and the world never resets. In December 2025 the server started letting Bedrock players in, but the team called that an experiment, so check before you count on it. If you want the wider anarchy scene, I rounded it up in my guide to Minecraft anarchy servers.
Is it safe for your PC and account?
Connecting to 2b2t.org through the regular Minecraft launcher is an ordinary server join. Nothing on the server's own pages asks you to install anything. The danger is the other players, and chat is where it lives. Wikipedia describes the global chat as full of spam, trolling, slurs and threats, with links to obscene content and screamer videos a common sight, and players lying to lure each other into traps. Trust no one is the standard rule there. The Terms have changed since (more on that below), but a wordfilter doesn't stop a link.
My own hygiene rules for a server like this:
- Don't click links in chat. Not from a friendly stranger, not from someone who "found your base."
- Don't run clients or mods another player pushes. If you want to know where I stand on mods in general, read are Minecraft mods safe. Anything a stranger sends you is a bad idea.
- Never share your Microsoft login with anyone, whatever they claim to be.
- Buy priority queue only from the official shop. It's shop.2b2t.org, linked from the 2b2t.org menu. The Terms ban promoting third-party shops in chat, so anyone in chat selling you a queue skip is already breaking the rules.
One more thing on that shop: it's a subscription. As of late 2026 the priority queue is around $20 a month (listed at $19.99 for one month, and $17.99 a month on the three-month plan), it expires after a month, and checkout runs through Tebex. You don't need it to play. The regular queue is slow, and it can hold 1,000+ players, but it's the way in without paying. Dying sends you back to it.
Is it safe for your stuff?
No, and that's the design. The official line is a "free for all no rules environment." Anything you build can be destroyed at any time. One of the best descriptions I've seen, from Rock Paper Shotgun, calls griefing "just a form of weather." There's no ownership etiquette to appeal to.
What that means for a new player:
- You spawn at a random spot within 2,048 blocks of 0,0, per the server's own pages. The spawn area has been wrecked for years, and press accounts describe lots of early deaths, starvation as the most common one, and traps like lava pits and fires. Those accounts are from 2016, so treat them as flavor rather than a forecast.
- The map is less destroyed the further you get from spawn, and veterans live out there. Nobody can give you a "safe distance." Past exploits like Nocom (patched in July 2021) and RANDAR (found in October 2022) let groups find bases far from spawn, which tells you how that works out.
- Cheats are allowed. The server's Modifications page says players can use cheats and modifications, though it may not allow every cheat full functionality. Other players will be running them, and that's a big advantage over you.
So why is 2b2t so destroyed? Mostly history. Wikipedia traces a lot of it to June 2016, when a YouTube video sent a flood of newcomers in and veteran players wrecked spawn to push them out. Years of griefing did the rest. The founder, Hausemaster, has said it isn't ruined, that it's "how it should be: absolutely chaotic." If you go in expecting to keep anything, you've misunderstood the server.
Is 2b2t safe for kids?
No. I wouldn't let a kid near it. The press has called it the worst Minecraft server, and Wikipedia's rundown of the culture includes slurs, death threats, Nazi propaganda, obscene builds and screamer links. A 2013 PCGamesN piece said Realms would keep children away from it. That's old, and the rules have tightened since, but the culture is the culture.
When 2b2t opened its Bedrock experiment in December 2025, it came within reach of phones and consoles, and GamesRadar+ said that likely brings in younger players. That's a reason for parents to pay attention.
The rating Mojang shows for Minecraft is for the base game, not this server. Parents should start with my guide on whether Minecraft is safe for kids.
What the December 2025 rules change did
2b2t has long been described as having almost no rules, and gameplay still has none to speak of: the Terms say there are "no inherent rules related to gameplay elements like PvP and griefing." What changed is the behavior side. In a post dated 19 December 2025, the server team said it adjusted its terms "to comply with an official notice from Mojang / Microsoft." GamesRadar+ reported on it in February 2026.
According to the Terms and that reporting, here's what's in now:
- A ban on hateful builds. No builds, structures or other content relating to harmful ideas, hateful symbols or hateful speech.
- A wordfilter on chat and on signs, covering explicit language and potentially abusive terms.
- A requirement to follow Minecraft's Usage Guidelines, Community Standards and Xbox Community Standards.
Before that, per GamesRadar+, the Terms explicitly covered only chat spam and real-life harassment or bullying. The Terms still say flat out that the server doesn't invite players to be toxic or harassing beyond the game. Chat spam, automated chat messages and threats are banned. So the server is a little less lawless than its reputation, but killing and griefing are still fair game.
Quick answers
Has 2b2t ever banned anyone?
Bans are an official punishment under the Terms. Chat privileges or server access can be disabled, temporarily or permanently, depending on severity. The rules lean on chat, hateful content and abusing exploits to cause disruption or lag, rather than on killing or griefing. Reports with proof go to support@2b2t.org.
How far is safe in 2b2t?
Nobody can give you a number you should trust. See the base-finding exploits above.
Is it free to join?
You can wait in the regular queue, and priority queue is the optional paid skip. You need a Minecraft account either way.
If you go anyway
- Use the normal launcher and type
2b2t.orgyourself. - Ignore every link in chat.
- Install nothing a stranger tells you to.
- Don't pay anyone in chat for anything. The only official shop is shop.2b2t.org.
- Expect to die a lot early, and expect to requeue after.
